$85 is a prohibitively high entry fee for a bike race: there are 3 races on the same day within 1 hours drive of this event that charge $12 or less…. Dump the imbeciles from cycling nsw and you might get a reasonable number racing. And those other races all allow entry up to 15 minutes before starting. Cycling nsw won’t allow entry beyond 2 weeks before the event. That means they need 1,400 times longer to process race entries than local clubs!

    Hi Andy,
The All Spokes Festival celebrates Cycling so I am sorry to hear of your thoughts regarding The Great Hunter Cycling Classic.
I am not aware of what history you may have with Cycling NSW but question your comments for an association which promotes and presents cycling opportunities to people who enjoy riding bikes??

    I take on board your comments and ask you this;
Are you aware that we have many cycling options for riders from a $10 fun/family ride up to a $85 100km long course with road series points on offer?
Did you know that with the $85 entry fee you actually receive goodies? I did not hear one negative comment from entrants a the inaugural event last year when ‘value for money’ came up.
What do the 3 events within 1 hour you speak of provide you with?
Is it possible for your $12 you get to ride along the side of a busy road separated from a speeding truck by 24cm of white paint. Perhaps you even get a bunch of cars wizzing past, all the while your eyes are treated to views of car safety barriers and urban dwellings.

I am unsure where your information came regarding entries, Cycling NSW do allow entries leading up to the event? We even had people entering on the morning last year. There needs to be some sort of closing date for entries to any event so organisers are able to prepare accordingly.

You may not be aware that these types of events don’t just happen by magic it takes effort and time. Happy Cycling…………..

    Well said Matt,

Andy your comments are typical of someone who contributes nothing to the running of racing, I do agree with you on the $85 though, it will turn people away.

    Hi Ferret,

    Thanks for voicing your thoughts.
$85 may turn some people away who do not wish to ride a safe 100km in the middle of wine country Pokolbin with professional traffic management. These people may also not see the value in the goodies received upon registration or the prizes availble for the lucky winners. This is something we will have to live with. This is the nature of economic decision making. As an event we are trying our best to deliver a unique cycling experience for all level of riders. Naturally we will not make everyone happy.
    Happy Cycling…………

    J,

Online entries are now closed but entries are still possible on the day!

Saturday from 2pm-5pm at the Tempus Two winery, there will be a registration desk where you can enter for either the 60km, 100km or family fun 19km course.

You may also enter on Sunday morning if you are not in the area before then. If you wish to do so please make sure you allow plenty of time before the race!

    Spread the word!

    Hi,
Could you please confirm when the results will be posted on the web site? I also noticed that there were photographers around the course on the day, are photos of the riders available?

    Hi Damon,

I trust you enjoyed your weekend.

Cycling NSW are compiling all results this morning which will be available on the website shortly. We had a professional photographer covering the event so we will also have several photos up shortly. There will not be individual rider shots available for all competitors from this years event, this is something we are planning on for the festival next year 2011.

    Hi Scampo,

Nice to have a ‘sandgroper’ in the Valley!
Very happy to see you can understand the value within the entry fee, it appears that some people think traffic management and associated costs with running an event are cheap. That is not the case.
In response the best way to find out current information about the event is to navigate this website in addiditon to http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au
Registrations have closed online (so we know where we stand) but you can enter on the day. The 100km event you speak of kicks of at 08:20 so please be sure you are here at least an hour before so you are not rushed. It also gives the event staff the chance to get through all of the entrants.
I look forward to seeing you there be sure to say g’day.
PS) There are some very handy riders in the 100km – so its a great way to get amongst it all on the day and see what time you can do!
